‎'Hamonjo - Broken Gate' the Yakuza crime/drama has a new co-writer and is in the re-writing stage...

after a few month off the project, we finally got back to the Yakuza crime/drama 'Hamonjo'.

Not knowing for a long time what direction the story should go, it ended up being a short story trilogy.

"Not really happy with that thought, I decided to go back to the first script titled '0-type Girl' and take a new re-write on the project".

"The stories would fit together well, we would get around the flaws from the first draft of '0-Type' and could add some new ideas that came from 'Hamonjo'. There were some parts that could be used and work great, but it needed more character-driven parts."

"There is a also a complete new take on the story. After a few in-dept interviews with some 'Yakuza'tied people I decided to take a complete new take and merge the '0-type Girl' story into the Hamonjo draft".

"There are still some very good parts and laughs that won't get lost, and it would give the story some comedy that was missing." said the writer.

Newly teamed up with a co-writer from Take One production, the story is now going into a re-writing process.

"we are very exited about the project, and with the help of the new co-writer we hope to give the character a more human appearance." so the writer about the story.

There are not much about the story yet, but there will be some up-dates in the near future.

Writing on a spy-trilogy

The spy-genre always fascinated me. Think of the James bond movies, a larger than life hero, the Bourne trilogy – There are so many ideas out there, set in the real world about counter intelligent and spies…

I’m in the middle of writing the screenplay ‘pirated’, stuck with research, I read so many articles and came up with ideas and stories that include actual events woven into a spy story.

When I started to do research on ‘pirated’ I knew that this would be a difficult matter, especially that it involves Somalia pirates.

Its still on the news and many people read about it, so to make it as ‘real’ as possible would be a challenge for me.

The character development is an important part of the story, should it be a larger than life hero or more like the beaten down guy who has a lot of troubles he carries with him?

When I thought about the character, I knew that I would use this character again. It wouldn’t be the only story he would appear.

To do that, think about the screenplay as a trilogy, the character has to be rich in background – what carried you to the first story might doesn’t work in the second, so there has to be more about this character to explore and more conflict to be solved.

Right now I have the idea for a trilogy: the first part ‘pirated’ deals with the Somali pirates Middle East and Europe.

The second part ‘on burning land’ will lead us to Asia or Africa and the third part ‘ PeaceKeepers’ will lead us into a war driven region.

New Screenplay - Pirated -

Its called 'Pirated'

After finishing my script 'the place' there is the long process of re-writing... during this time I started with my research for a new story... this time it's going to be a spy thriller, set in Europa and Somalia.
I followed the news about the pirate attacks in Somalia, and as further I investigated in the story as more potential for a spy story I got out of it.

My writing journey around the world, started in Japan, went to US finally arrived in Europa. And Isn't it a cool place to start a spy novel... thinking about the bourne movies, 007, Ronin...

up dates follow soon.

The Cina Tibet Railway Trip Part 7 - The Potala Palace

Today our goal was the Potala Palace, once the heart and soul of Lhasa.

First, how to get into the Potala Palace:

Oh boy, this is a long story.
We had to get tickets first. Our tour guide did it for us, so we were able to enter. But we had to show them our passports. Then there was the usual security check. Done!

Now the stupid part began. We had a time limit, so it was only possible to stay for 50 minutes inside the Potala. If you would go without guide you have as much time as you want. So from the entrance to the red building we already spend 20 minutes for climb the stairs to the entrance. And again, enter permission, passport…

Once inside we were only allowed to see the red part. The white part, the government part, was forbidden. And there were cameras and microphones everywhere. It was not possible for the guide to speak free. I didn’t know if it was only a scare tactic or if the Chinese really check everything they say to the tourists. The Dali lama long gone, left this place as an empty shell, run by the Chinese government. There were still some very expressive Buddha statues in there but it was not the same anymore.
It’s sad, but we made it to the roof of the world without the feeling that this place still lives.
